There is no single type of “IMG family.”

A useful way to think about the housing and relocation question is to separate several very different situations.

Some students board at IMG while their parents continue living elsewhere. Those families may primarily need accommodations when visiting Bradenton.

For households placing a premium on campus convenience, the area immediately surrounding IMG deserves the first look.

Housing around 34210 includes a mixture of condominiums, apartments, villas, townhome-style properties and single-family homes.

There are also communities and accommodations with an especially close relationship to IMG. Academy Park, for example, sits immediately adjacent to the campus, and furnished accommodations in the area illustrate the specialized demand created by visiting athletes and families.

But proximity alone does not determine whether a property works for a particular housing strategy.

Condominium and homeowners-association rules can restrict lease length or rental frequency. Local vacation-rental regulations can also apply depending on the property's location and intended use.

A property being close to IMG does not automatically mean it can be rented however an owner chooses.

That is something both buyers and property owners should investigate before making assumptions about rental potential.

West Bradenton

West Bradenton provides a much broader range of established residential neighborhoods and housing types while keeping families on the western side of Manatee County.

Depending on the exact property, buyers may encounter older Florida homes, renovated residences, condominiums, waterfront and near-water options, and established neighborhoods that feel very different from newer communities east of Interstate 75.

For IMG-connected households, the appeal can be a balance between campus access and the broader West Bradenton lifestyle.

Northwest Bradenton

Northwest Bradenton deserves to be considered separately from the immediate IMG area.

It can appeal to households drawn toward the Manatee River, Palma Sola, Robinson Preserve and the western side of Bradenton, but it is not the same thing as living directly around the Academy.

For a family making frequent daily trips to IMG, that distinction matters.

For a household placing greater weight on the surrounding lifestyle, property characteristics or long-term use of the home, the tradeoff may be worthwhile.

This is exactly why IMG-related housing decisions should begin with the family's routine rather than a generic ranking of neighborhoods.

Sarasota

Sarasota is also a legitimate consideration for some IMG families.

The Academy's southwest Bradenton location places it much closer to portions of Sarasota than someone unfamiliar with the area might assume.

Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is also nearby, which can be particularly valuable for families traveling frequently.

But “Sarasota” covers an enormous range of locations.

Living near the airport or in northern Sarasota creates a very different IMG commute from living farther south in Sarasota County, on Siesta Key or in Palmer Ranch.

Anyone considering Sarasota because of IMG should evaluate the actual property and expected travel patterns rather than relying on a city-to-city mileage estimate.

Lakewood Ranch

Lakewood Ranch often appears in relocation conversations because of its newer housing, amenities and extensive master-planned environment.

It can absolutely be relevant to an IMG family.

But Lakewood Ranch has grown into such a large area that describing it with one commute time is not particularly useful.

A property in one village may create a substantially different daily drive than a property in another.

Families attracted to Lakewood Ranch should therefore weigh the community's lifestyle and housing advantages against the reality that IMG Academy is located in southwest Bradenton, not eastern Manatee County.

Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key and the Beaches

IMG's location also places families within reach of some of the Gulf Coast's best-known beach communities.

Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach and Longboat Key can be appealing for visiting families and for households that place a high value on coastal living.

IMG Academy Is Still Evolving

IMG Academy continues adding programs and facilities.

In 2026, IMG reports 12 sports programs encompassing 21 sports on its approximately 600-acre campus.
